Tiverton Wind Turbine AnalysisTIVERTON - Within the foreseeable future eight to ten wind turbines could be built at Tiverton's Industrial Park and adjoining property. When operational they could provide energy to nine East Bay communities. It's feasible.

That was the message delivered Monday night to Tiverton's town council by Garry Plunkett, the town's representative to the East Bay Energy Consortium (EBEC). Mr. Plunkett's presentation to the council was accompanied a summary of a much longer feasibility study conducted for the EBEC by Applied Science Associates (ASA) of South Kingston.

"Tiverton was the star of the show," Mr. Plunkett said about the study of nine East Bay communities and their suitability for serving as a host to a group of wind turbines that could supple energy to them all. "There was no other site that even came close."

So energized was the council by what Mr. Plunkett said that it decided to schedule a special meeting for Monday night, Oct. 25, to address the subject.

As the council was setting that date, Mr. Plunkett said, "Maybe you're thinking you've been here, but you really have not been down this road before." It's not some outsider coming in to do something with the Industrial Park, he said, "it's the town itself."

The council chose the October date in part to keep momentum going, before the hiatus imposed by a new council coming in after elections.
