ASA's wind energy expert, Daniel Mendelsohn on WPRI News12ASA has recently contracted with the North Kingstown School Department to provide a full wind energy feasibility study to assess the possibility of installing a wind turbine to generate power to offset energy costs for the school department, similar to what the town of Portsmouth, RI has done. WPRI news stopped in to ASA's headquarters in neighboring South Kingstown to learn more.

"None of this would happen if it was not an economic benefit for the municipality. It's straight offset of taxes," said Mendelson.

To help calculate the costs and benefits of a new turbine, the school brought in ASA. Senior principal Daniel Mendelson thinks the environmental benefits are great, but the savings are even better.

"In places like Rhode Island, it's not like Oklahoma or Iowa, where there are wide open spaces. There are a lot of people, a lot of development everywhere, so you have to be really careful about how you place these things so they don't unduly impact any residents," said ASA Senior Principal Daniel Mendelsohn.
